Au matin du 25 d\u00e9cembre 1914, \u00e0 l\u2019initiative des Allemands qui cessent le feu et sortent des tranch\u00e9es autour de la ville belge d\u2019Ypres en chantant des cantiques de No\u00ebl, les soldats belges, fran\u00e7ais et anglais sortent \u00e0 leurs tours de leurs tranch\u00e9es pour se rencontrer : \u00ab Tout le monde sifflote joyeusement. On fume, on rit : c\u2019est No\u00ebl, la tr\u00eave de Dieu. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les soldats allemands placent des sapins sont le long des lignes de tir et les soldats britanniques, belges et fran\u00e7ais sont invit\u00e9s \u00e0 participer aux festivit\u00e9s. Cette tr\u00eave n\u2019est pas officielle et les autorit\u00e9s de chaque arm\u00e9e tentent d\u2019y mettre un terme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si le principe du \u00ab&nbsp;fusill\u00e9 pour l\u2019exemple&nbsp;\u00bb n\u2019existe pas encore, des mesures sont toutefois prises et les soldats concern\u00e9s sont d\u00e9plac\u00e9s sur les fronts les plus dangereux. Louis Barthas, caporal pendant les quatre ann\u00e9es du conflit \u00e9crit au sujet de ces \u00ab&nbsp;fraternisations&nbsp;\u00bb : \u00ab La m\u00eame communaut\u00e9 de souffrance rapproche les coeurs, fait fondre les haines, na\u00eetre la sympathie entre gens indiff\u00e9rents et m\u00eame adversaires. Ceux qui nient cela n\u2019entendent rien \u00e0 la psychologie humaine.
